Ellie speaks on Brexit and the Amazon

This week in Strasbourg, Ellie has spoken to the plenary about the importance of the climate strikes, Europe’s role in protecting the Amazon, and the best path forward for Brexit.

On the climate strikes, Ellie said:

‘We must work for systemic change. We have built our prosperity on fossil fuels and resource exploitation. The result has been climate crisis and unacceptable inequality. We have a special responsibility to show leadership in achieving zero carbon and in tackling inequality. Warm words about a Green New Deal need to be translated into policies: no trade policy that encourages deforestation, no investment in fossil fuels. Instead, public transport, zero carbon buildings, green agriculture. We need to take this opportunity of zero carbon transition to build the societies and economies that our children deserve.’
