Outreach
Ellie has made it a priority to get to know and speak to as many of her constituents as possible. Based in Herefordshire and used to working in Birmingham, Ellie made sure to travel to all corners of the West Midlands region: Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and of course the WMCA. As a representative of such a diverse region, she wanted to make sure that she was hearing from people on the ground.
Ellie’s two main focuses in politics have been: youth engagement in politics, and the transition to zero-carbon. Ellie therefore has also prioritised visiting places, companies and institutions with links to these aims. She has visited schools, colleges and universities across her patch about young people in politics and spoken to Local Economic Partnerships and local governments about the transition to zero carbon. Not to mention hundreds of other engagements with various different festivals, protests, charities and businesses!
After being elected in May 2019 and formally joining the European Parliament in July 2019, Ellie had August 2019 off-duty as part of the European Parliament summer recess. She dedicated this time to travelling round her constituency and learning from people of all social, political and business backgrounds, as seen below:
