Ellie’s priorities in the European Parliament
Ellie’s work in Parliament involves Committees, Delegations, Intergroups and more.
Committees are the formal structures through which the European Parliament makes laws. They meet for a couple of days every three weeks or so to scrutinise the work of the Commission and debate & amend legislation. Most MEPs sit on two Committees. Ellie is on the INTA (International Trade) and DEVE (Development) Committees – both of which relate closely to her previous jobs as a university lecturer and charity worker in the field of international development. Ellie also takes a keen interest in the work of the AGRI (Agriculture) committee, especially regarding reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
Delegations link the European Parliament to other countries and institutions around the world. Ellie sits on four:
• ASEAN
• Cariforum
• China
• India
Intergroups are cross-party groups of likeminded people who want to campaign together on particular issues within the European Parliament. Ellie has joined six:
• Anti-Racism & Diversity
• Children’s Rights
• Disability
• Extreme Poverty and Human Rights
• Green New Deal
• Volunteering
