High Court rules against Met ban of protest
On Wednesday 6th November, the Royal Courts of Justice found the Metropolitan Police ban of Extinction Rebellion protest unlawful

On Wednesday 6th November, Ellie joined other plaintiffs at the Royal Courts of Justice to hear the ruling on the legality of the London-wide implementation of Section 14. The Court ruled that the Extinction Rebellion protests throughout the first two weeks of November could not be legally considered one assembly, and therefore Section 14 could not be applied – therefore was unlawful.
Ellie said: This is a victory for the right to peaceful assembly and protest, two cornerstones of our democracy. I would like to pay tribute to the Extinction Rebellion activists and other protest movements who have raised the question of the climate crisis up the political agenda. This ruling pushes back against the politicians who wish these protests would just go away and be silenced. It is essential we listen to the alarm, not silence it, and tackle the climate emergency with the urgency it deserves.
